Bio

I am a first generation, Lebanese-American in my first postdoctoral position. I received my PhD in cognitive psychology from Penn State in Dr. Dan Weiss' Language and Cognition Lab.

My areas of research include the relationship between cognition and behavior, sequence planning, and evolution.

The goal of my doctoral research was to better understand the domain specificity and generality of language and action. I accomplished this through examining language and action planning similarities across and within individuals, as well as noting motor planning similarities/differences across people and nonhuman primates.

Education

I graduated with a BS in psychology at the University of Georgia under Dr Doree Fragaszy. There, I assisted with capuchin data collection and enrichment. I completed an honors thesis on the vocal repertoire of Red and Green Macaws in Brazil where I assisted a graduate student on her dissertation examining the ontogeny of stone tool use in wild capuchins.

After graduation I went on to be a Research Intern/Assistant at the Lincoln Park Zoo and Zoo Atlanta, prepping touch screen tasks and collecting behavioral data on chimpanzees and gorillas.

I began graduate school at Kennesaw State University, earning a masters of integrative biology, under Dr Jared Taglialatela. I collected data with chimpanzees at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, North Carolina Zoo and the Chattanooga Zoo. I collected data with bonobos at the Ape Initiative and the Milwaukee County Zoo. My thesis was titled, Language prerequisites in Pan: Orofacial-motor and breath control in chimpanzees and bonobos

In 2017 I joined Dr Dan Weiss' lab and continued studying the relationship of language and action. I completed a thesis titled, Easy-First in Language and Action and a dissertation titled Sequencing biases in language and motor planning: A comparative study of humans and bonobos
